HC Deb 15 November 1977 vol 939 c114W
Mr. Trotter

asked the Secretary of State for Industry whether he will give details of the Government's plans to introduce a redundancy scheme in the shipbuilding industry; and how many redundancies are envisaged in total and in each shipbuilding area.

Mr. Les Huckfield

The Government will introduce as early as possible a short Bill enabling schemes to be made by order for payments to employees of British Shipbuilders and Harland and Wolff Ltd. who are made redundant or transferred to less well-paid employment. Details of schemes are under discussion with the trade unions concerned. As to the second part of his Question. I refer the hon. Gentleman to my answer to the hon. Member for Kingston upon Thames (Mr. Lamont) on 10th November.—[Official Report, Vol. 938, c. 223–4.]
