HC Deb 15 November 1977 vol 939 cc167-8W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many policemen have left the Cheshire police force during 1977.

Dr. Summerskill

121 up to 30th September 1977, including three who transferred to other police forces in England and Wales.

Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the number of recruits required to bring the Macclesfield police force up to full strength.

Dr. Sammerskill

The strength of Macclesfield Division of Cheshire Constabulary is 243, and there are eight vacancies. In addition to the divisional strength, the area is served by the headquarters units of the Cheshire force. It is for the Chief Constable to decide to which units of the force new recruits should be posted, taking into account all the needs of his area.
