Mr. Ralph Howell

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the total net weekly spending power of a single mother with two children aged 6 and 4 years when she is in receipt of supplementary benefit and earns £6 a week; and what earnings from full-time employment she would need in order to leave her with at least the same spending power, assuming that her child-minding expenses would be £8 a week, and other work expenses would be £2 a week, assuming in each case rent of £5.60 and rates of £2.20.
