HC Deb 15 November 1977 vol 939 cc142-3W
Mr. Kinnock

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the average useful life of the frames of National Health Service children's spectacles; and whether he is satisfied with their design and durability.

Mr. Moyle

Information indicating the average life of NHS children's frames is not available. Children's growth rates, and the ways different children handle their glasses, make it impossible even to speculate on the average useful life of a child's frame. However, all NHS frames are manufactured to British Standards and we are satisfied that the form and durability of children's frames is reasonably adequate for their purpose.
