HC Deb 15 November 1977 vol 939 cc209-10W
Rev. Ian Paisley

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will now make representations to the Northern

showing the number of soldiers, RUC, RUCR, UDR and civilians killed in total and by each means and the number of persons killed by the security forces.

Mr. Mason

A total of 1,552 murders, of all types were committed in the period 1st January 1969 to 14th November 1977. A total of 186 persons were killed by the security forces in the same period. The total number of deaths resulting from the terrorist campaign in this period is as follows:

Ireland Housing Executive that under the Housing Selection Scheme, Group A4, Paragraph 3, ambulance drivers shall in the future be classified as key workers.

Mr. Carter

In the opinion of the Department of Commerce, ambulance drivers do not come within the definition of key workers as laid down in Section 18 of the Housing Act (Northern Ireland) 1961. However, individual ambulance workers could be classed as incoming workers within Group A4 of the Housing Selection Scheme, depending on whether, in the opinion of the Housing Executive, they are people who provide some special and much needed service to the community which necessitates their living in the relevant area. The hon. Member may wish to consider making representations directly to the Northern Ireland Housing Executive about any individual cases in which he is interested.
