§ Mr. Gordon Wilsonasked the Secretary of State for Energy if warning signs are displayed on vehicles transporting plutonium.
§ Mr. William Rodgers:I have been asked to reply.
The Radioactive Substances (Carriage by Road) (Great Britain) Regulations, for which I am responsible, call for the placarding of vehicles with a "hazard diamond" label when vehicles carry radioactive materials including plutonium. The hazard diamond contains the internationally approved trefoil symbol and the word "Radioactive" as a warning to the emergency services and members of the public.
