HC Deb 10 November 1977 vol 938 c212W
Mrs. Chalker

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will indicate the range of weekly residential home costs for the caring of handicapped children aged up to 5 years, handicapped children aged 6 to 13 years, handicapped adolescents aged 14 to 18 years, handicapped adults aged under 60 or 65 years, and elderly persons unable to live alone or in sheltered housing, respectively, by local authorities and by voluntary organisations for the latest dates available.

Mr. Moyle:

Statistics in the form requested are not available centrally, but the hon. Member will find average net costs per resident week, for residential care provided by each local authority for all children, including those who are mentally handicapped, the younger physically handicapped, mentally handicapped adults, and elderly persons, in the joint publications of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy and the Society of County Treasurer, entitled "Social Services Statistics ". Copies are available in the Library of the House, including a copy of the publication relating to actual expenditure in 1975–76 and estimates for 1976–77. These are the latest available.
