§ Mr. Bakerasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the estimated cost to the revenue of extending the separate taxation option for husband and wife to include (a) the entire investment income of the wife, (b) the investment income of the wife up to £1,500 per annum and (c) the investment income of the wife up to £4,000 per annum.
§ Mr. Robert Sheldon, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 23rd May 1977; Vol. 932, c. 347–8], gave the following further reply:
I regret that the information centrally available about the investment income of married women is not sufficient for an estimate to be made.
