§ 37. Mr. Arthur Lathamasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food 227W if he will use his powers under Part I of the Agriculture (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1968 to make a mandatory regulation prohibiting the muzzling of farm livestock other than for veterinary purposes.
§ Mr. StrangVeterinary evidence suggests that this practice does not necessarily cause discomfort or distress to the animals and could in some circumstances have animal health advantages. I consider, therefore, that its prohibition by regulation would not be justified, but shall ensure that it continues to be kept under close review.
