§ 26. Mr. Rookerasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the defects recently discovered in road joints on the elevated sections of the M6 motorway in the West Midlands.
§ Mr. HoramThe joints installed when the viaducts were built were of the buried type. This means that there is no discontinuity in the surface at the joint, thus giving a smoother ride. Although they have been used successfully elsewhere, many of them broke down on the M6, and replacement by a different type of joint is now being carried out progressively.
