HC Deb 09 May 1977 vol 931 c339W
3. Mr. Jim Lester

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will report on the progress being made in the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade negotiations, and in the negotiations on a new Multifibre Arrangement.

Mr. Dell

At the Downing Street Summit Conference in London at the weekend it was agreed that a new impetus should be given to the GATT negotiations and that the objective should be to achieve substantive progress in key areas this year. As regards the renegotiation of the multi-fibre arrangement, the Community is now agreed on its general objectives but has yet to reach a final decision on the method it should propose to deal with the problem of cumulative disruption.
