HC Deb 03 May 1977 vol 931 c112W
Mr. Mates

asked the Minister for the Civil Service what modifications to normal conditions of service have been introduced to assist in the particular problems facing United Kingdom civil servants who serve in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Charles R. Morris

The following modifications to normal conditions of service have been introduced to assist in the particular problems facing United Kingdom civil servants who serve in Northern Ireland: a housing compensation scheme; a free visit to Great Britain for staff and their families, after 12 months' service; air travel to Great Britain for staff eligible to travel normally by surface transport; boarding school or guardians' allowance for children educated in Great Britain and assistance with extra travel costs for staff undertaking unavoidably longer journeys between home and office to avoid dangerous areas.
