HC Deb 03 May 1977 vol 931 cc99-100W
Mr. Adam Hunter

asked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) what is the annual total number of driver licences expected to be recorded by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre when it takes over all this work; and if he will give the date of commencement;

(2) what is the annual total number of vehicle licences expected to be issued by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre when it takes over all this work; and if he will give the date of commencement.

Mr. Horam

About 11.5 million in 1977. The centre has been dealing with all driving licences except heavy goods and public service vehicle driving licences—which there are no plans to include in its ambit—since October 1976.

Mr. Adam Hunter

asked the Secretary of State for Transport (1) what is the total number of driver licences recorded by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre in the last year for which full accounts are available; and if he will give the year;

(2) what is the total number of driver licences issued in the last year by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre for which full accounts are available; and if he will give the date of commencement.

Mr. Horam

9.6 million in 1975–76.

Mr. Adam Hunter

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the average delay in the issue of driver licences from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre for the last full year.

Mr. Horam

In 1976, it has taken eight working days to issue a licence from receipt of application.

Mr. Adam Hunter

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what is the annual total number of vehicle licences expected to be issued by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Centre when it takes over all this work; and if he will give the date of commencement.

Mr. Horam

About 235,000 in 1977–78—though most licences will actually be issued by post offices and local vehicle licensing offices.
