§ Mr. Hayhoeasked the Minister for the Civil Service how many disabled people have been employed in the Civil Service during the last 12 months; and how many Civil Service employees have registered as disabled during the same period.
§ Mr. Charles R. MorrisThe numbers of registered disabled persons employed in the Civil Service are collected once a year, and the latest available figures show that as at 1st June 1976 the total was 15,211. The hon. Member will appreciate that this figure relates only to those disabled people who are registered and who have informed their Departments of this fact. Registration by a disabled person is voluntary, and likewise there is no obligation to inform the employer of registration. We do not record the number of serving civil servants who choose to register as disabled. However, I can say that 112 registered disabled persons were recruited to non-industrial posts in the Civil Service during the year ending 31st December 1976.
