§ 38. Mr. John H. Osbornasked the Secretary of State for Trade what discussions he has had with Governments of countries in the EEC and the Commission about restriction of cheap imports of cutlery and silverware: and whether he is satisfied that such restrictions are as effective in the United Kingdom as elsewhere in the Community.
7W
§ Mr. MeacherI have had no such discussions. The Japanese have renewed for 1977 their long-standing restraint on exports of stainless steel tableware to the United Kingdom which is working satisfactorily. Most, though not all, other members of the EEC have restrictions on imports of cutlery; except in two cases these restrictions apply only to imports from Japan.
