HC Deb 21 March 1977 vol 928 c449W
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland when he issues a consultative document on education, what is the usual length of period for such consultations, and, in view of his recent parliamentary answers relating to diversification of the curriculum at Dunfermline College of Physical Education if it is the policy of the Government to conduct consultations over several years.

Mr. McElhone

The period allowed for consultation is determined by the nature of the issues involved and the date by which decisions have to be taken.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if, as part of the consultation process, he will take into account the motion of the hon. Member for West Stirlingshire (Mr. Canavan) passed unanimously at the recent Labour Party Conference in Scotland.

Mr. McElhone

Yes.
