§ Mr. Wigleyasked the Secretary of State for Trade what has been the average cost to the public of each additional job created by grants for the development of tourism.
§ Mr. MeacherGrants for assistance to tourism projects in England are made by the English Tourist Board under Section 4 of the Development of Tourism Act 1969. I am advised by the Board that the average cost to public funds of each 357W additional job created by such assistance has been £2,800. The parallel assistance given by the Scottish and Wales Tourist Boards is the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland and my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Wales respectively.
