asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the six weeks' maternity pay payable by employer to employee is taxable.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 16th March 1977; Vol. 928, c. 237], gave the following information:

I assume that my hon. Friend is referring to maternity pay payable under the Employment Protection Act 1975. This pay will be taxable.
