HC Deb 14 March 1977 vol 928 cc49-50W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what has been the total expenditure in Wales to date under the youth employment subsidy, the number of man weeks of work secured in this way, and the number of persons who have benefited under the scheme.

Mr. Golding

As at 4th March 1977, 1,055 applications had been approved in respect of young people entering employment in Wales, and assuming that all applications cover the full period of 26 weeks for which subsidy is payable the amount of financial commitment was just over £274,000. Information on the number of man-weeks of work secured in this way cannot be obtained as in the majority of cases the employment will continue beyond the period of which subsidy is payable.
