HC Deb 10 March 1977 vol 927 cc632-3W
Mr. Beith

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment why parish boundaries are no longer shown on 1:50,000 Ordnance Survey maps of England and Wales; and whether, in view of the usefulness of this information to parish councillors and candidates, and the fact that many parishes are not shown wholly on one 1:25,000 map sheet, he will make arrangements for its inclusion to be resumed.

Mr. Guy Barnett

Parish boundaries are no longer shown on coloured editions of 1:50,000 Second Series maps. This change was made in the interests of economy of production following a comprehensive review of user requirements. Parish boundaries are still shown on all Outline—monochrome—editions of these maps. The Ordnance Survey is prepared to reconsider the position after the Local Government Boundary Commissions have completed their reviews of parish boundaries in England and Wales.
