HC Deb 09 March 1977 vol 927 c593W
Mr. Emery

asked the Secretary of State for Trade, in view of the fact that more tourists each year visit the West Country than visit Wales and Scotland combined, and that Wales and Scotland each have a separate tourist board, why he has not nominated a West Country representative to the English Tourist Board.

Mr. Meacher

Since the Development of Tourism Act 1969 provides for a small board of not more than seven persons including the chairman, it would not be practicable, since there are 12 regions, to appoint members to represent particular districts.
