HL Deb 01 March 1977 vol 380 c615WA
Lord HYLTON

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are the terms of reference for the new Family Planning Information Service, and whether any voluntary bodies, other than the Family Planning Association, were consulted before this organisation was established.

Lord WELLS-PESTELL

The Family Planning Information Service is supported jointly by the Family Planning Association and the Health Education Council. Its agreed purpose is to provide information including leaflets, posters, publications and publicity services to ensure that people know about and use the free National Health Service family planning facilities. The information is aimed also at family planning staff working within the NHS and at agencies and individuals who have a part to play in family planning. The service has no formal terms of reference.

It would not have been appropriate for this purpose to have consulted other voluntary bodies, but the new arrangement was reached after discussions in a Working Party representative of the FPA, the HEC, the Department and NHS health authorities set up to consider family planning information services.
