HC Deb 28 June 1977 vol 934 cc106-7W
Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what is the latest position regarding marking of kegs showing the liquid contents; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Fraser

At present there is no requirement to mark wholesale prepacks such as kegs or casks with an indication of the quantity of their contents.

One of the recommendations in the recent report of the Working Party on Metrological Control Systems is that the adoption of the average contents system could provide the opportunity for bringing such containers within the scope of quantity marking legislation.

I intend to examine the need for legislation in this particular case, in consultation with interested parties, when the average system has been implemented.
