Friend the Secretary of State for Social Services that his Department will be spending approximately £1.35 million in the financial year 1977–78. The Medical Research Council's expenditure during 1977–78 cannot yet be reliably estimated. The figure for its expenditure in 1976–77 will shortly be available and I will arrange for it to be circulated in theOfficial Report. Information is not available about work supported by universities and hospital medical schools.
