asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how much per head of the population has been spent on housing in Northern Ireland in each of the years 1972 to 1976.

Mr. Carter

Figures are not available to show the total amount spent on housing, private and public. However, information on public expenditure on housing in Northern Ireland is available in table 2.15 of "The Government's Expenditure Plans—Volume II". CMND 6721–II, copies of which are available in the Library.

On the basis of estimates of the total population of Northern Ireland at the mid-point of each year, per head figures of public expenditure on housing would be as follows:

The published figures for the years prior to 1974 relate to all—former—housing authorities. Completions by the Housing Executive before 1974 were
