§ Mr. Ralph Howellasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether in France and West Germany parents are able to continue drawing family allowance for a child who has left school until he or she takes up employment, but that the child has no entitlement to any sort of unemployment benefit; and if he will show which other EEC countries operate a similar system.
§ Mr. OrmeI understand that in West Germany, Italy and Luxembourg family allowances may continue in such circumstances up to age 18. In France, family allowances may be paid under certain conditions for a maximum of one year from the date the child completes his compulsory education. I am not aware of any similar provisions elsewhere in the European Community.
