HC Deb 23 June 1977 vol 933 cc514-5W
Dr. Edmund Marshall

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will undertake an inquiry into the future role and functions of the Eggs Authority.

Mr. Bishop

In the light of discussion in the Standing Committee on Statutory Instruments on the Eggs Authority (Rates of Levy) Order 1977, and with the agreement of my right hon. Friends the Secretaries of State for Northern Ireland and Scotland and my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Wales, I have asked officials to examine, in consultation with the Eggs Authority and producer and trade organisations within the egg industry and other interested bodies, the functions, structure and financing of the Eggs Authority, taking account both of the role the Authority should play within the United Kingdom and relevant developments within the EEC directed towards the setting up of an inter-professional organisation for eggs and to report to Ministers on the results of their discussions.
