HC Deb 21 June 1977 vol 933 cc437-8W
Mr. Gwynfor Evans

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what proportion of the houses of England and Wales, respectively, has been condemned as unfit for habitation.

Mr. Armstrong

Decisions about which houses are to be regarded as unfit are taken by individual local authorities. No central record is kept of these decisions. The first results of the house condition surveys held last year suggest that about 5 per cent. of the total stock in England and about 10 per cent. in Wales was unfit.
