Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department on what date he received the current application for an increase in the tariff for London taxis; and when he expects to approve it.

Dr. Summerskill

Organisations representing some of the London cab drivers submitted on 19th April proposals for reform of the London fares tariff combined with a fares increase, and these are being studied. The committee representing the collective interests of the London cab trade has not yet put forward an application although it is expected to do so in the near future. I cannot anticipate the outcome, or the timing of any resultant increase.
