asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland (1) what was the total cost to the Government for building new Roman Catholic schools, or extending such schools, in each of the years from 1972 to 1976;

(2) what was the total cost to the Government of maintaining Roman Catholic schools in each of the years from 1972 to 1976.

Neither the Department of Education nor the education and library boards analyse their expenditure on schools by religious denomination. To obtain the information asked for by the hon. Member would therefore entail disproportionate cost to public funds.
