§ Sir George Youngasked the Secretary of State for Social Services which cigarette manufacturers are refusing to agree to the code of practice on cigarette sponsorship; and when he expects the new health warnings which he announced on 8th March to appear on cigarette packs and advertisements.

A draft code of practice is the subject of negotiation with the tobacco industry. I understand from my right hon. Friend that the revised health warning may be expected to appear on cigarette packets by October in the case of all major brands; the new health warning will appear in Press advertisements from 1st October and as soon as practicable thereafter on other advertisements.
