Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will give the salary, expenses and other emoluments paid to or received by the Chairman, Vice-Chairman and members of the Housing Corporation for each of the years since 1974, and the number of hours worked weekly or annually for these payments.

Mr. Armstrong

For the years 1974–5, 1975–6 and 1976–7 the Chairman of the Housing Corporation did not draw remuneration. The salary of the present Chairman is £7,200 a year. The Deputy Chairman received £3,840 and the members £1,000 for each of the three years.

The total expenses paid were £2,471, £3,177 and £3,992 for the three years in question.

The scales of remuneration are based on an average of three days a week for the Chairman two days a week for the Deputy Chairman and one day a week for members.
