§ Mr. Reidasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what action he has taken on recommendation 220 of the Finer Report, regarding the provision of education for schoolgirls who become pregnant.
§ Mr. McElhoneThe arrangements made by education authorities to provide education for pregnant schoolgirls vary, but they include special classes, home tuition and correspondence courses. I have no proposals for further action at present.
§ Mr. Reidasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is his policy towards the provision of practical home economics for both boys and girls in school, as recommended in paragraph 219 of the Finer Report.
§ Mr. McElhoneResponsibility for the content of the school curriculum rests with education authorities. It is desirable that boys and girls should have equal access to home economics courses, but my right hon. Friend does not consider that the subject should be compulsory for any pupil.
