§ Mr. John Garrettasked the Minister of Overseas Development what steps she is taking to give scientific and professional staff in her Department better opportunities for promotion to management jobs, in the light of her replies to Questions asked by the Member for Norwich, South on 16th June.
§ Mrs. HartScientific and professional staff fill a significant number of management posts in my Ministry, within the scientific and professional categories and in the open structure. The Senior Professional Administrative Training Scheme, which is advertised annually, is available to give them experience of administrative work. They may also apply for lateral transfer to the Administration Group.
