HC Deb 21 January 1977 vol 924 c344W
Mr. Gould

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether there is any formal signed agreement under which the United Kingdom is a member of Interpol.

Dr. Summerskill

No.

Membership of the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) is not obtained by an inter-governmental treaty or agreement. The question of a formal signed agreement by the United Kingdom does not therefore arise.

Mr. Gould

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether Interpol has access to the new National Police Computer at Hendon or to any computerised police records, either directly or indirectly.

Dr. Summerskill

Interpol does not have direct access to the Police National Computer or to any computerised record system in this country. Inquiries from Interpol are made to New Scotland Yard and computerised records may be consulted before an answer is prepared.
