asked the Lord President of the Council what effect the operation of cash limits (a) has had in the current year and (b) will have had to the end of the current financial year upon the number and location of staff in his Department.

My Department is continuously seeking ways of making economies and the operation of cash limits has added impetus to this policy. Staff numbers have already been reduced by about 10 per cent.
