§ Mr. John H. Osbornasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether, in the light of such action as that of the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive in paying staff £100 per head to move from one office to another a few hundred yards away without involving a change of residence, he will further instruct local authorities on cutting down expenditure.

No. The Government have made their position abundantly clear on the subject of local authority expenditure. This particular case is one for the hon. Member to pursue with the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive and the metropolitan county council, if he so wishes.
