Mr. Spriggs

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will list in the Official Report details of assistance offered under the auspices of his Department to firms considering moving to areas designated as special development areas, or setting up new industrial units in such areas.

Mr. Cryer

From August 1972 up to 31st December 1976 assistance has been made available under the Industry Act 1972 for projects located in the special development areas of England, Scotland and Wales as follows:

These figures are exclusive of assistance made on a national basis to British Leyland and Chrysler Ltd. who have factories in the special development areas.

Details of selective assistance offered and regional development grants paid to individual companies are published regularly in Trade and Industry in accordance with the arrangements announced by my predecessor on 31st July 1974.
