asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will introduce satisfied until we have achieved our objective of bringing the United Kingdom inflation rate down to the levels of our main competitor countries.

The retail price index rose by 16.6 per cent. over the 12 months to January.

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he has revised his estimate of when the annual rate of inflation will be down to single figures.

Given the uncertainties of the present situation, I am not prepared to make an estimate of the kind suggested.
