HC Deb 24 February 1977 vol 926 cc698-9W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will ensure that in the event of wage control continuing into the next financial year, sufficient flexibility will be allowed to overcome some of the difficulties that arose under current regulations, because men doing the same work for the same employer have within their wages structure a frozen differential that both the employers and the employees wish to eliminate.

Mr. Robert Sheldon

The current pay policy is set out in TUC guidelines relating to the 12 months to 31st July. Both the TUC and the Government have acknowledged that there is a case for incorporating greater flexibility in the arrangements to be made for pay for the period from 1st August. This will be the subject of discussion in coming months and I cannot anticipate the outcome.
