HC Deb 24 February 1977 vol 926 cc660-1W
Mr. Ovenden

asked the Attorney-General if he will list the provisions contained in Acts of Parliament, regulations or rules which are the responsibility of his Department and which afford unequal treatment between an illegitimate and a legitimate child or between the parent of a legitimate child and the parent of an illegitimate child.

The Attorney-General

My Department is not responsible for any Acts of Parliament, regulations or rules which contain provisions which afford unequal treatment between an illegitimate and a legitimate child or between the parent of a legitimate child and the parent of an illegitimate child.

Two such provisions which are the responsibility of my noble Friend the Lord Chancellor have been identified, as follows: Section 5 of the Administration of Justice (Pensions) Act 1950; Section 14 of the Family Law Reform Act 1969. In addition he is responsible for a number of enactments which are dependent upon or which reflect either those provisions, or other provisions for which he is not responsible, or the common law.
