HC Deb 23 February 1977 vol 926 cc610-1W
Mr. Sproat

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether it is the invariable policy of his Department to check the person in social security when that person claims that a Giro cheque has gone missing in the post, before issuing another Giro cheque for the same amount and same person; and, if not, under what circumstances a check is not made.

Mr. Orme

I assume that the hon. Member wishes to know whether Giro cheques are ever replaced without Some inquiry into the circumstances of the claimant or of the alleged non-receipt. The answer is "No".
