Mr. Patrick Jenkin

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how the capital cost of £34,700 per place for the new intensive care unit for adolescent girls in Lambeth compares with other establishments built for a similar purpose.

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the estimated annual running cost per place at the new intensive care unit for adolescent girls which is being built by Lambeth Council.

Mr. Ennals

I understand that the annual running cost per place of the intensive care unit for adolescent girls being built at Cumberlow Lodge is estimated at approximately £8,760.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services under what powers he is making a grant to Lambeth Council to cover the estimated cost of a new intensive care unit for adolescent girls.

Mr. Ennals

The grant is being made under Section 64A of the Children and Young Persons Act 1969.
