HC Deb 17 February 1977 vol 926 cc363-4W
51. Miss Fookes

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps he is taking, in conjunction with his fellow Ministers in the EEC to study the life cycle of commercially valuable fish, so that effective conservation measures can be taken to supplement the protection afforded by fishing limits.

Mr. Bishop

The United Kingdom is active in the work of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) which provides scientific advice on the state of all the major fish stocks in the North-East Atlantic. The other members of the Community with fishing interests are also members of ICES, and the fishery scientists of all member countries maintain close contact with each other.
