HC Deb 16 February 1977 vol 926 c287W
Mr. George Rodgers

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what proportion of persons in the 16 to 21 and 60 to 64 years age groups inclusive, respectively, were registered as unemployed at the latest date for which statistics are available.

Mr. Golding

In the following table, the numbers unemployed in Great Britain at 13th January in the age ranges nearest to those specified are expressed as proportions of the corresponding provisional figures for the total population. It is not possible to make the normal calculations of rates of unemployment in these age ranges as proportions of total employees because up-to-date age analyses of employees are not currently available.

Age Unemployed Unemployed as percentage of total population (provisional)
16–19 252,328 7.8
20–24 254,916 6.8
60–64 137,214* 4.5
* Includes a small number of females aged 65 and over.
