HC Deb 15 February 1977 vol 926 cc155-6W
27. Mr. McCrindle

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what further discussions have taken place with local education authorities regarding truancy and related matters.

Miss Margaret Jackson

There have been no further formal discussions, but Her Majesty's Inspectorate, in consultation with the local education authorities, have set in train studies of special units which are provided in some areas for truants and disruptive pupils, and of successful practice in dealing with these problems within the schools. My colleagues and I have had recent discussions with the Magistrates Association and I hope to have a further meeting with it shortly.
