HC Deb 15 February 1977 vol 926 cc167-8W
Sir J. Langford-Holt

asked the Prime Minister whether he will publish a list showing the number of persons employed at No. 10 Downing Street since 1st January 1974; which of these persons were positively vetted for security; which were not so vetted; and what was the basis for the different treatment.

The Prime Minister

So far as my own Administration is concerned, the practice is that all staff employed at No. 10 are positively vetted. That rule has been implemented.

As regards the Administrations of my two immediate predecessors since 1st January 1974, my right hon. Friend the Member for Huyton (Sir H. Wilson) described the practice that he adopted in reply to a Question from the hon. Member for Conway (Mr. Roberts) on 9th April 1974. I cannot trace that the right hon. Member for Sidcup (Mr. Heath) was questioned on the matter.
