§ Dr. McDonaldasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what would be the cost, in terms of loss of revenue to the Exchequer in 1977–78, of raising the child benefit to £3.35 for all children, and £3.85 for the first child of one-parent families.
§ Mr. OrmeIncreasing the rates of child benefit to £3.35 for all children plus a further 50p for the first child of one-parent families in 1977–78 would result in an additional cost of £1.3 billion net of savings on other social security benefits and without adjustment of child tax allowances.
