The provisional 1976 figure for the total number of abortions is 7,182, of which 7,003 were carried out in National Health Service hospitals.

According to the provisional abortion figures for 1976, 6,998 women normally resident in Scotland had abortions in National Health Service hospitals in Scotland. The rate of abortions per 100 live births was 10.3.
