Mr. Michael Latham

asked the Secretary of State for Prices and Consumer Protection what is the total sum paid out to date on each of the relevant products by way of food subsidies since the introduction of the subsidy system under the Prices Act 1974; which of the subsidies have now been totally discontinued; and which will be discontinued during the financial year 1977–78.

Total expenditure on general food subsidies between 1st April 1974 and 31st January 1977 has been as follows:

*Includes £56.5 million expenditure under Appropriation Acts.
†Includes £41.7 million expenditure by FEOGA.
The tea and butter subsidies have now been discontinued, and the remainder will be discontinued during the financial year 1977–78.
